hypnosis for improving confidence

The degree to which we feel confident in ourselves plays a significant role throughout our entire lives.  Confidence is directly linked to the level of success we attain in our careers, our relationships, and all of our endeavors. The more confidence you have, the more likely you are to attain your desired goals in life. Unfortunately, most people struggle with a lack of confidence to some degree or another. They often feel that their lives are not nearly what they could be. This is why improving one’s confidence level is a goal for so many people.

Confidence is not necessarily something you either have or you don’t. You’re not just born with it.  It is absolutely something that can be developed. Because feeling confident can have such a significant impact, it is very worthwhile to find ways to increase it. Hypnosis is an excellent way to do this.  For some people, hypnotherapy can bring about results much more quickly and easily than traditional therapy or self-determination.  The results are often lasting in many cases.

Hypnosis can be done by working directly with a trained hypnotherapist, by listening to a tape or CD geared towards a particular goal (in this case, becoming more confident) or by learning self-hypnosis methods which you can use yourself. It is fairly common to use a combination of all three in order to attain the desired results. Many times when someone seeks out the help of a hypnotherapist, the session is taped so that he can listen to it regularly in order to reinforce the benefits of the hypnotherapy. Pre-recorded hypnosis sessions can also be purchased to be used in a similar manner.

One of the reasons hypnosis is so popular is because it is relatively inexpensive and has essentially no risk. And the results can be very quick without a lot of struggle and effort. Hypnosis works by accessing the unconscious mind so that positive changes can be made via the power of suggestion. During the hypnosis session, you will be guided into a highly relaxed state.  The process of reaching this state is referred to as the “hypnotic induction” and the extremely relaxed state is referred to as a “hypnotic trance”. You are not asleep during this time, but your mind is highly focused, and your anxiety is greatly reduced. This is important because anxiety and fear create resistance. The less resistance you have the more open to suggestion and change you will be.

To help you increase your confidence, the hypnotherapist will talk to you while you are in this trance state. He or she may make statements about how wonderful your new found confidence feels, and how easy it is for you to achieve any goal you desire. He may address particular issues you have, such as feeling more confident with the opposite sex, or in your career, or speaking in front of people. These issues are often addressed up front so that the hypnosis session is tailored to fit your particular goals and needs with regards to your confidence issues.

Hypnotic suggestions are typically made in present tense. This tells your unconscious that you are confident now, as opposed to at some point in the future. The statements are also typically positive rather than negative. For example, rather than suggesting that “you no longer have self doubt” the statement would be “you feel confident in everything you do”. The theory is that the unconscious doesn’t distinguish between “you no longer have….” And “you have”…  You don’t want the outcome to be that you increase your self-doubt.

The results of increasing your confidence using hypnosis can be very powerful. Improving relationships, having increased success in your career, and being able to achieve goals which had previously seemed unattainable can significantly impact the direction of your life. In order to ensure lasting improvement, many hypnotherapists will instruct you to continue listening to the recorded session (or relevant CDs) or to administer self-hypnosis techniques regularly. Initially this may be once or twice a day, and then after 30 days may be done periodically. Every person is different, but hypnosis is definitely a method worth considering if lack of confidence is an issue for you.
